Diets That Work by Cutting Back on Soft Drinks

Diet and health experts agree that the fewer soft drinks you consume a day, the more weight you can lose. They also will tell you that rapid weight loss plans just don’t work. The general public is increasingly calling for diets that work. They want diet plans that work as opposed to just more fad diet. There are low carb diets that work and crash diets that work, but the success is short lived.  New research has shown that cutting back on one soft drink per day can lead to more weight loss than eating less food. Sugary soft drinks have no nutritional value – only sugar. A single can of soda can have up to 140 calories or more. “Weight loss from liquid calories is greater than loss of calorie intake from solid food,” according to Dr. Liwei Chen, an assistant professor of epidemiology at Louisiana State University.

Our bodies can self-regulate our solid food intake. But drinks are another matter. We gain more weight because our bodies can’t adjust to accept liquid calories. One of the easiest, surefire ways to lose fat is to limit the sugared drinks you consume daily. By doing this, you may find the pounds start to melt off. Dr. Benjamin Caballero, M.D., Ph.D. of Johns Hopkins University, has said that eliminating sugary drinks from your daily diet for six months will lead to the loss of a pound per month. Dr. Caballero’s remark was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, which is under the auspices of the American Society for Nutrition. Alternatively, people who are underweight can add pounds by drinking soft drinks.

New studies have shown that people who cut back on soft drinks lost more weight than those who didn’t. One of the primary reasons people choose sugary drinks is that they leave us feeling full; but in fact, all they do is fill our stomach’s full of empty calories. Similarly, fruit juice, which can be high in sugar, can cause you to add pounds. The drinks that will help with weight loss are plain water, iced tea, and coffee. Keep a written record of all the food and drinks you take in daily, and then cut back on both gradually. Dr. Liwei Chen believes the American people’s propensity for soft drinks has contributed to the nation’s obesity epidemic. Researchers have found that about 75 percent of American adults will be overweight, or even obese, by the year 2015, and one of the leading causes of this will be the widespread consumption of sugar-sweetened drinks. In 2006, U.S. soft drink companies banned the sale of soft drinks in the nation’s schools. This agreement was reached by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, an effort of  the American Heart Association.

Diets that work are more about making small changes in our eating and drinking habits such as limiting the amount of sugar based soda we consume. As we create these good habits, we can begin to focus on additional areas of improvement.
